Inaugural Season for the Heather Healey Female Invitational

Paradise Minor Baseball has a long history of delivering baseball programs to the youth of our community.  In particular, Female baseball in Paradise has seen explosive growth over the past number of years. 

Here are some staggering statistics on Female Baseball in Paradise

  • Our female program kicked off in 2018 with 14 participants. Also in that year, we entered our first team in the St. John's all Female League of their Own 12U division.
  • In 2021 we anticipated having about 40 players across 3 age divisions. We were delighted to have more than 70 girls register in 2021 and to be able to field 3 teams at 12U, as well as teams in the 14U and 16U for the first time.
  • For the 2022 season we have 8 teams (3 in 12U, 3 in 14U,  and 2 in 17U)
  • For the 2021 season, Paradise Minor Baseball had the largest Female player growth in Newfoundland & Labrador.

Its no secret that the success of Female Baseball in Paradise is because our incredible coaching staff who dedicate countless hours to growing the game.  

For the 2021 Season, our girls we're successful at several tournaments throughout the summer:

  • 12U LOTO Gold & Silver
  • 14U LOTO Gold
  • Mike Buist Classic 12U AA: Gold
  • Honda Classic 12U AA: Gold
  • Provincials 12U AA: Gold
  • Provincials 14U A: Gold

Building on the success of our programs over the last number of years, for the 2022 Season we are proud to introduce the Heather Healey Female Invitational which will have three divisions: 12U, 14U, and 16U being held June 24-26.

Heather Healey has been involved in the Paradise Minor Baseball Association since the age of 5.

Heather was the first female to be drafted in the history of the St. John’s Amateur Baseball Association.  She was drafted in the 1st round, 3rd overall by the Fieldians, Intermediate division, in 2014. Heather became the first female in the history of the association to play in the Senior division in 2016. She also played with the Capitals in the Men’s Junior ‘A’ provincials, another first for a female baseball player.

Heather first represented Canada at the National Team level in 2014 at the World Cup in Japan. In 2016, she traveled to South Korea to play in the World Cup with the Canadian Women's National Team and helped Team Canada win a silver medal. Heather was the starting pitcher for Team Canada’s U20 National team in 2015 in the Dominican Republic and helped Canada win gold.

Heather was awarded Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2014 Junior Female Athlete of the year and Newfoundland and Labrador's 2017 Senior Female Athlete of the year. Heather was announced as the 2014 Molson provincial senior/junior player of the year by Baseball NL.  She was also awarded the 2017 Town of Paradise Female Athlete of the year.  She has traveled to Florida and Baltimore with the New England Red Sox winning numerous gold medals.

In naming our Female Invitational after Heather, we hope to continue to inspire future generations of girls and young women to play, and keep playing, the great game of baseball.
